Philosophy

Salvage Life promotes sustainable living through careful selection of vintage pieces that are relevant to the current trends. Our goal is to reduce the use of new resources by creating an easy and fun shopping environment that helps the earth and its people without sacrificing style. Since fashion is cyclical, many of the trends of today can be found in the styles of yesterday. Some of our items come to us scarred from their former lives, but we breathe new life into them with delicate repairs and cleaning techniques. We believe that given a little faith and creativity, everything has the opportunity for a new life.

Bio

Beth Giles has loved fashion and business for as long as she can remember. Even as a child she was known for her creativity and entrepreneurship. In 2006, Beth received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Fashion Design and Merchandising from Cal State University Long Beach. During her career at Long Beach State, Beth worked at Showroom in Los Angeles selling contemporary clothing; it was there that she was exposed to beautiful, quality clothes. Beth then had an internship at a junior’s clothing line where she learned the design and production process. Upon graduation, Beth was offered several design jobs, but wanted to stay in Long Beach and pursue her own venture. As she began to develop the idea for Salvage Life, Beth worked part-time at a local boutique, designing the window displays.

As for the environmental aspect of the business, Beth has always been a creative re-user, avid thrift store shopper and vintage lover. With all the concerns that are now being raised about the state of the earth and the variety of eco-friendly options on the market, Beth thought, “What is more sustainable than re-using things that already exist?” She now sees everything with a different perspective, if something isn’t quite wearable or useful in it’s current form, it just needs a little revamping.
